Daily Breakfast - 08/04: VN-Index dropped over 20 points amid market-wide sell-off; Large-cap shares plunged

Market summary of Friday, April 8, 2022

Vietnam:

Stock markets in Vietnam closed sharply lower on Friday as Large-cap shares tumbled. The VN-Index dropped 1.35%, while the HNX-Index plunged 2.17%.

BID and VPB were the biggest contributors to the VN-Index's losses as they shed 2.7% and 2.5%, respectively, while GVR tumbled 4%. FPT dropped 4.2%, MWG slid 3.2%, GAS and POW plunged more than 2%, while MSN, VNM, PDR, and VRE were down more than 1%. Most other banks also edged lower, with SHB dropping over 3%, STB and HDB down more than 2%, MBB, CTG, LPB, TPB, etc. seeing losses above 1%. Many real estate shares also plummeted, with FLC, KBC, IDC, etc. tumbling to their floor prices. Investors also turned away from small-cap shares as HAG, GEX, ROS, BCG, etc. plunged to their floor prices. HSG also dropped 7% amid rumors of an investigation of the company's bond issuance. On the other hand, VIC led the gains of the index as the stock saw a strong rebound of 2.8% from recent selloffs, while VHM only added 0.13%. NVL and VJC also rose around 1%, while BCM jumped 1.9%. ACB was the only bank ending the session in the green, advancing 0.7%.

On HNX, IDC was the biggest loser, plunging 10% to its floor price, while THD dropped 2.2%. Securities shares were also impacted by the sell-off, with SHS shedding 5.2%, APS down 3.7%, MBS dropping 1.6%, etc. PVC tumbled 9.6% to its floor price, while PVS and PVB dropped 3.7% and 8%, respectively. Meanwhile, HUT climbed 3.1%, while CEO and BCC added more than 1%.

The session ended with all sectors registering losses, led by oil and technology shares dropping 2.11% and 2.09%, respectively. The basic materials sector also shed 1.91%, while financial shares plunged 1.06%.

The VN-Index closed with a net foreign sell of 310.37 billion VND as foreign investors focused on selling VHM, STB, and VND. On HNX, they also sold a net of 2.21 billion VND as they mainly sold THD, NVB, and PVG, while focusing on buying IDC.
